Texas Cowboys

The clothing choices at the Round Top Antiques Market tend to run toward a style not necessarily unique to Texas but definitely western in styling; lots of jeans, lots of boots, lots of lightweight shirts, sometimes spurs, sometimes chaps.  Combine these things into one package and you have a look cowboys have been sporting for many, many years.

Cowboys abound in Texas and you do not have to look far to find an authentic cowboy, boots, hat, etc.  The general feel when meeting a rancher or cowboy is of meeting an authentic, honest to goodness, hard working, God fearing American.  Most cowboys will “Yes, ma’am” and “No, Ma’am” you to death but they will always be polite, helpful, and respectful.20181005_101108(0).jpg

While here, I came across a wall hanging decorated in a cowboy motif with a border of barbwire, horseshoes and a cow skull.  Woven into the wall hanging;  A Cowboy’s 10 Commandments. Closely mirroring the original 10 commandments, I think these easily translate and are applicable to all y’all (for you city folks that means everyone).

Cowboys 10 Commandments

  1. Just one God

  2. Honor yer Ma and Pa

  3. No tellin’ tales or gossipin’

  4. Get yerself to Sunday meetin’

  5. Put nothin’ before God

  6. No foolin’ around with another fella’s gal

  7. No Killin’

  8. Watch yer mouth

  9. Don’t take what ain’t yers

  10. Don’t be hankerin’ for yer buddy’s stuff.20181001_20350520181001_203508

Until October 6th or a little later, I’ll be blogging from Warrenton Texas at the Round Top Antiques Market.  Follow me; learn about the quirky, strange and unusual items, people and things to see.  I hope you enjoy my trip as much as I. If you’re in the Round Top area stop by the Campbell Building and see us; our booth is Eye 4 Jewels.  Or you can check out the building’s Facebook page here.  For a calendar of events during the show and list of all the venues and their dates and times open here.

    • Yes sir they are something else. Beyond being ruggedly attractive, these cowboys are a pleasure to spend time sharing experiences and chatting. They always have a story to tell and a great way of turning a phrase. Quite enjoyable!
